Firm Overview:
Crossguard is an experienced firm of trade mark, patent & copyright attorneys specialising in protecting brands, designs, artistic works, inventions, know-how, character & personality rights, as well as acting in domain name disputes – indeed all aspects of intellectual property law. The firm is led by Philip Cooper, a senior trade mark attorney and a member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys in the UK since 1972. He has worked extensively as a trade mark attorney in both private practice and industry, dealing with all aspects of trade mark law and management, as well as other legal issues concerning branding, corporate identity, copyright, and design. Because of his expertise, Philip has been called to speak at various conferences in the UK, Belgium, Spain and Canada on trade mark and anti-counterfeiting topics. He is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Manchester School of Law. Philip began his career with a leading firm of patent & trade mark attorneys, and then joined GKN plc where he undertook substantial joint venture, licensing, merger and acquisition work, as well as being responsible for an anti-counterfeiting program. Moving to BT as Head of Trade Marks, he was responsible there for the clearance and protection of their new corporate identity. As Head of Trade Marks at Rover Group, Philip led worldwide trade mark registration and enforcement programmes to protect brands such as Land Rover, Mini and MG. During this time, he registered the shape of the classic Mini automobile as a trade mark, created the name Freelander, and led a major brand extension licensing programme for Land Rover. Michael Croft, a senior patent & trade mark attorney, has since joined the firm, completing the comprehensive range of intellectual property services offered. Michael is a Chartered Patent Agent and European Patent Attorney, and also a member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys. Michael has not only worked for major patent and trade mark practices. He was also patent & trade mark manager at a leading law firm where he gained particular experience in intellectual property litigation and the drafting of licences and other intellectual property based commercial agreements. Michael has advised a wide variety of clients, including clothing, fashion, food, newspaper and motor sports businesses, and the water industry, plus advertising agencies, architects, computer companies, brewers, jewellery manufacturers, pop stars and retail stores. He has lectured on all aspects of intellectual property and was co-author of the chapters on intellectual property in the book “The Law & Your Business”. Crossguard works worldwide through an international network of associates, as well as representing clients directly at the British and European Trade Mark & Patent Offices. The firm’s office in Bromsgrove is near both Junction 1 on the M42 and Junction 4 on the M5 at the heart of the motorway network, and is also only half an hour from the centre of Birmingham or Birmingham International Airport. |
