Background's scope and examiner's search 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Can the scope of the background affect the extent of the examiner's search?
If I cite patent documents that are close enough to the disclosed invention, may it shorten the examiner's search? Or on the contrary make it easier for the examiner to find even closer patents? Or is the examiner indifferent to what is written in the background until formulating the office action?
